Technology is very important in supporting you to live well with dementia. It can be daunting, especially if you are not used to using devices. But many things that can help are very simple to use.
Assistive technology
Assistive technology can help you feel safer or support you in doing things that have become challenging. It can support you to live well and safe at home.
Other devices can be used to help you remember to take your medications or to find you if you become disorientated. Providing you, and those who care for you, with reassurance that you can get out and about safely.
The Alzheimer’s Society guide on Assistive technology – devices to help with everyday living (pdf) has information on how technology could benefit you.
The Technology Charter for people living with dementia in Scotland (pdf) promotes how technology can make a difference to the lives of those living with dementia.
The Lifted website (incorporating Unforgettable) has technology you can buy, information and services to make daily life easier for people with dementia.
The Meet Adam website provides those living with a long-term condition like dementia to find useful technology to make day-to-day living easier. The service is free and funded by Alzheimer Scotland and the Scottish Government.
Community alarm and telecare
A community alarm can be used to call for help if you need it or to alert someone you have fallen if you can’t. Aberdeenshire Lifeline is Aberdeenshire Council’s community alarm and telecare service. It has a range of devices that use technology to help with daily living.
