Many people worry about their memory, especially as we get older. You may be afraid that forgetfulness is the start of something else, like dementia. Your memory may be nothing to worry about.

It is important to discuss any concerns you have about your memory or any other symptoms you may be experiencing with your GP, so you get the appropriate advice and support. The earlier you get a diagnosis the sooner you can access support and services that can help.

Your GP may do some further tests such as blood tests to rule out any other causes of your symptoms. You may also be asked to do a memory test and the GP may refer you for a brain scan at a hospital.
In Aberdeenshire, if dementia is suspected, your diagnosis may be made by your GP, or they may refer you to a Psychiatrist for further assessments.
